4G Solar CCTV Cameras in Kenya: When Cheap Becomes Expensive

4G solar CCTV cameras have become increasingly popular in Kenya. They offer an attractive solution for farms, rural homes, construction sites, gates, ranches, businesses and properties where electricity or Wi-Fi may not be readily available.

But at Boardtac Solutions, we have recently received calls from customers who are extremely disappointed after buying and installing low-cost 4G solar CCTV cameras from different shops and technicians in Nairobi.

These customers are not calling us because they simply want a new camera. They are calling because they have already spent money, experienced repeated failures and are struggling to get a proper solution.

One common complaint sounds like this: “My camera is draining the battery. Even after replacing it with a new battery, it doesn’t charge beyond 29% or 31%. I don’t know whether the replacement battery is faulty or the camera itself has a problem.”

Another customer had a solar camera installed in Laikipia. The camera repeatedly goes off. Whenever the customer contacts the seller, they are advised to remove the camera, manually charge the battery and put it back on the pole. The camera works for a few days and then dies again.

Eventually, the seller suggests another battery or another solar panel.

When that also fails, the customer is told to bring the equipment back to Nairobi.

The problem is that the customer may not even be living at the property. They could be working in Mombasa, Meru, Nairobi or another part of the country. Now they are expected to travel back home, remove a camera mounted on a pole and transport it all the way to Nairobi for another round of trial and error.

This is where the real cost of a cheap CCTV system begins to appear.

The problem is not always the battery.

A battery that keeps going flat does not automatically mean the battery is faulty.

The camera may be consuming more power than the solar panel can replace. The solar panel could be undersized, poorly positioned or not receiving enough direct sunlight. The charging circuit could have a problem. The battery-management system could be faulty. The camera could have unusually high power consumption. The 4G modem could be working harder because of poor network conditions. Motion detection could be triggering the camera excessively. Night vision, spotlights, PTZ movement and frequent video transmission can also increase power consumption.

Replacing the battery without checking these things is simply guessing.

When troubleshooting becomes guesswork.

This is one of the biggest concerns we have seen from customers who have contacted Boardtac Solutions.

The process becomes something like this.

Battery is suspected.

Battery is replaced.

Camera works temporarily.

Camera dies again.

Solar panel is suspected.

Solar panel is replaced.

Camera works temporarily.

Camera dies again.

Another battery is suggested.

The problem returns.

Finally, the customer is asked to take the camera to Nairobi.

At this point, the customer has spent money but still does not know what is actually wrong.

Professional troubleshooting should be different.

The objective should be to identify the root cause before replacing components.

A solar CCTV system is more than a camera and a panel.

A reliable solar CCTV system is an energy system.

The solar panel generates power. The charging circuit manages that power. The battery stores it. The camera consumes it. The 4G modem uses additional energy to communicate with the network. At night, infrared illumination or white-light LEDs consume more power. PTZ movement and frequent motion events can further increase consumption.

All these components have to work together.

If the camera consumes more energy than the solar system can replenish, the battery will gradually decline until the camera goes offline.

Installing a bigger battery alone may only delay the problem.

Installing another solar panel without understanding the charging system may also fail to solve it.

Why does manually charging the battery appear to fix the problem?

Manually charging the battery can make a dead camera come back to life.

But if the camera dies again after three days, the manual charging has not fixed anything.

It has only temporarily restored the energy that the system is failing to generate or manage properly.

The correct question should be:

“Why did the battery become empty in the first place?”

That requires testing.

What should a technician check?

Before replacing another battery or solar panel, the system should be properly assessed.

The technician should check the solar panel output under suitable sunlight. The charging voltage should be checked. The battery voltage and condition should be assessed. The camera’s power consumption should be considered. The 4G signal should be checked. Motion detection and recording settings should be reviewed. The solar panel’s position and exposure to sunlight should be inspected. Connections and cables should also be checked.

The goal is to determine whether the problem is coming from the solar panel, battery, charging circuit, camera, configuration, network or installation.

Only after identifying the likely cause should components be replaced.

Remote CCTV installations need proper after-sales support.

A camera installed in Nairobi is relatively easy to access.

A camera installed on a farm in Laikipia is different.

If the equipment fails, someone may have to travel hundreds of kilometres. The customer may have to leave work. Someone has to climb the pole. The camera has to be removed. Transport has to be arranged. The equipment has to be taken to Nairobi. Then it may be tested, another component replaced and eventually returned to the site.

If the same fault happens again, the entire process starts over.

That is not just a technical problem.

It becomes a customer service problem and a financial problem.

The hidden cost of a KSh 5,000–12,000 camera.

There are many generic 4G solar CCTV cameras available in the Kenyan market at relatively low prices.

At first, the price can be very attractive.

But customers should look beyond the purchase price.

A cheap camera can become expensive when you add repeated battery replacements, solar panel replacements, transport, technician visits, dismantling, reinstallation, data costs, downtime and the loss of confidence in the system.

The customer may have saved money when buying the camera but spent much more trying to keep it operational.

That is why the saying “cheap is expensive” can be very real when purchasing security equipment.

The problem is not simply that a camera is cheap.

There are affordable CCTV products that can work well.

The real concern is buying an unknown or poorly supported product without understanding its specifications, power requirements, battery quality, charging system, firmware, spare parts availability and after-sales support.

Two cameras can look almost identical from the outside and still have completely different internal components and reliability.

A product can have impressive marketing features but still have poor power management or inadequate support.

What should customers ask before buying a 4G solar CCTV camera?

Don’t only ask, “How much is the camera?”

Ask who manufactures it. Ask for the exact model. Ask about the battery capacity. Ask about the solar panel rating. Ask about expected power consumption. Ask how the system behaves during several cloudy days. Ask what happens if the battery goes completely flat. Ask whether replacement batteries and other parts are available. Ask who will provide technical support when the camera fails. Ask what the warranty covers. Most importantly, ask whether the installer will provide support if the camera is installed hundreds of kilometres away.

A good supplier should be able to explain these things clearly.

At Boardtac Solutions, we are seeing the other side of the story.

The customers who contact us are often already frustrated.

They have purchased the equipment. They have paid for installation. They have contacted the seller several times. Batteries have been replaced. Solar panels have been changed. The camera has been removed and reinstalled.

Yet the problem keeps coming back.

They eventually contact Boardtac Solutions because they want someone to look at the problem from a technical perspective instead of simply guessing which component to replace next.

And sometimes, the difficult part is that we cannot responsibly guarantee a repair when we don’t know the actual manufacturer, internal design, battery specifications, charging system or availability of genuine replacement parts.

That is an important lesson for both customers and technicians.

Don’t choose a security system based only on the price.

A CCTV camera is not just a gadget.

It is a security system that you depend on when something happens.

For remote locations especially, reliability and after-sales support should be part of the buying decision.

The cheapest quotation may not be the cheapest solution in the long run.

Before buying a 4G solar CCTV camera, ask yourself one simple question.

“If this camera stops working six months from now, who will actually help me?”

Because the real cost of CCTV is not only what you pay when the camera is installed.

It is also what you spend keeping it working.

Cheap can be expensive. Reliable security is an investment.

Logitech Rally Video Conferencing Installation & Troubleshooting in Kileleshwa, Nairobi – A Real Engineering Assessment by Boardtac Solutions

Logitech Rally Video Conferencing Installation, Troubleshooting & Boardroom AV Solutions in Kenya

In today’s business environment, video conferencing has become an essential part of daily operations. Whether your organization uses Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet, every meeting depends on clear video, reliable audio, stable connectivity, and seamless collaboration.

Unfortunately, many organizations only discover problems after important meetings have already been disrupted. Poor image quality, unstable HDMI connections, outdated firmware, improper installation, and network issues can all affect the meeting experience.

At Boardtac Solutions, we provide professional video conferencing installation, boardroom AV integration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and support for businesses across Nairobi and throughout Kenya. Our engineering approach focuses on identifying the root cause of issues rather than simply replacing equipment.

Recently, our engineers carried out a comprehensive boardroom video conferencing assessment in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, after users experienced poor meeting quality with a Logitech Rally video conferencing system running Zoom. Although the equipment appeared to be in good condition, our detailed assessment revealed several hidden issues that were affecting overall performance.

Real Project: Boardroom Video Conferencing Assessment in Kileleshwa, Nairobi

The client contacted Boardtac Solutions after experiencing inconsistent video quality during board meetings. Participants reported that video clarity was poor, presentations were sometimes unreliable, and the conferencing experience was not meeting professional standards.

The boardroom was equipped with a Logitech Rally video conferencing system connected to a large display and configured for Zoom meetings.

Rather than assuming the camera was faulty, our engineers performed a complete assessment of the entire conferencing ecosystem.

This approach allowed us to identify multiple contributing factors that would not have been discovered through simple equipment replacement.

Our Engineering Assessment Process

Every professional boardroom assessment begins with a systematic inspection.

Our engineers evaluated:

  • Logitech Rally camera system
  • Display connectivity
  • HDMI infrastructure
  • USB connections
  • Device firmware versions
  • Cable quality
  • Equipment ventilation
  • Zoom configuration
  • Audio performance
  • Network stability
  • Overall boardroom usability

Instead of treating each component separately, we examined how every device interacted with the rest of the conferencing system.

Issue 1: Outdated Firmware Across Multiple Devices

One of the first discoveries was that several devices were running outdated firmware.

Modern conference rooms consist of multiple intelligent devices that continuously communicate with each other.

These may include:

  • Logitech Rally Camera
  • Rally Display Hub
  • Rally Table Hub
  • Microphones
  • Speakers
  • Controllers
  • USB interfaces

Firmware updates improve:

  • System stability
  • Security
  • Device compatibility
  • USB communication
  • Camera performance
  • Audio synchronization
  • Meeting platform compatibility

Running outdated firmware increases the likelihood of random failures, unexpected behaviour, and compatibility problems with newer versions of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.

Issue 2: Equipment Placement and Ventilation

Our assessment also found that the Rally Table Hub had been installed with limited airflow around its ventilation openings.

Electronic devices generate heat during normal operation.

When ventilation is restricted, internal temperatures increase, which can result in:

  • Performance degradation
  • Unexpected shutdowns
  • Hardware instability
  • Reduced equipment lifespan

Professional installation is about much more than appearance.

Every device should be installed with adequate airflow, accessibility for maintenance, and proper cable management.

Issue 3: HDMI Cable Quality Matters

Another important finding involved the HDMI infrastructure.

Many organizations assume all HDMI cables perform the same.

In reality, HDMI cables differ significantly in:

  • Shielding quality
  • Signal integrity
  • Bandwidth
  • Connector quality
  • Electrical interference protection

Low-quality HDMI cables may cause:

  • Flickering displays
  • Resolution issues
  • HDMI handshake failures
  • Intermittent signal loss
  • Blank screens
  • Presentation interruptions

Using certified, high-quality HDMI cables is essential for reliable boardroom performance.

Issue 4: Video Quality Depends on the Entire System

Many people believe poor image quality automatically means the camera is faulty.

That is rarely the case.

Video quality is influenced by several factors working together, including:

  • Camera settings
  • Display resolution
  • HDMI signal quality
  • USB bandwidth
  • Firmware compatibility
  • Zoom configuration
  • Room lighting
  • Display calibration
  • Network performance

Optimizing each component results in significantly better meeting quality.

Issue 5: Boardroom Network Performance

Professional conferencing relies heavily on stable networking.

Even premium conferencing equipment cannot perform properly if network conditions are poor.

Our engineers always evaluate:

  • Network latency
  • Packet loss
  • Available bandwidth
  • Switch performance
  • Structured cabling
  • Internet stability
  • Wi-Fi reliability where applicable

Reliable conferencing starts with reliable networking.

Why Professional Installation Matters

Many meeting rooms are assembled over time using different installers and equipment from multiple vendors.

Without proper system integration, organizations often experience recurring issues that affect productivity.

Professional AV integration ensures that every component works together as one complete system.

Why Boardtac Solutions Takes a Different Approach

At Boardtac Solutions, we don’t simply replace equipment.

Our engineers investigate the complete conferencing environment before recommending solutions.

Our assessment typically includes:

  • Firmware verification
  • HDMI testing

Conclusion

A professional boardroom is much more than a camera mounted above a screen. It is an integrated ecosystem where cameras, microphones, speakers, displays, networking, firmware, structured cabling, and software must all work together seamlessly.

Our recent assessment in Kileleshwa demonstrated that several seemingly minor issues—including outdated firmware, restricted ventilation, and low-quality HDMI cabling—combined to reduce the overall conferencing experience. By identifying these root causes, we helped lay the foundation for a more reliable and professional meeting environment.

If your boardroom experiences poor video quality, audio issues, display problems, or unreliable meetings, don’t assume the camera is the problem. A comprehensive engineering assessment can uncover hidden issues and save your organization unnecessary replacement costs.

Why Some Video Conferencing Systems Fail in Meeting Rooms – And How to Choose the Right One

A video conferencing system should make meetings easier, not create frustration.

One of the most common requests we receive at Boardtac Solutions comes from organizations that already have a video conferencing system installed but are still experiencing poor meeting quality. In many cases, the complaint isn’t about the video—it is about the audio.

People seated near the camera are heard clearly, while those seated farther away struggle to be heard. Remote participants constantly ask, “Could you repeat that?” or “We can’t hear the person at the other end of the table.”

This is one of the most common signs that the conferencing solution does not match the meeting room’s requirements.

The Biggest Mistake When Choosing a Video Conferencing System

Many organizations compare systems based on price alone.

While keeping costs under control is important, selecting the lowest-priced solution without considering the room size, seating arrangement, acoustics, and microphone coverage often leads to poor meeting experiences.

Replacing or upgrading an unsuitable system later can cost significantly more than choosing the right solution from the beginning.

Every Meeting Room Is Different

A conferencing system that performs perfectly in a small office may struggle in a larger boardroom.

Factors that should be considered include:

  • Room dimensions.
  • Number of participants.
  • Seating layout.
  • Distance between participants and microphones.
  • Display size and viewing distance.
  • Room acoustics.
  • Existing network infrastructure.
  • Preferred meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet.

Choosing equipment without evaluating these factors often results in disappointing performance.

Audio Quality Matters More Than Camera Resolution

Many buyers focus on whether a camera offers Full HD or 4K resolution.

In reality, meeting participants are far more likely to tolerate average video than poor audio.

If remote attendees cannot hear everyone in the room clearly, the meeting becomes less productive regardless of how sharp the video looks.

Professional conferencing systems are designed to ensure that every participant can be heard clearly, whether they are seated close to or farther from the camera.

The Right Solution Is Not Always the Most Expensive

An effective video conferencing system does not necessarily have to be the most expensive option.

The goal is to recommend equipment that fits the room—not simply the highest-priced product.

For some meeting rooms, an all-in-one conferencing bar is the ideal solution.

For others, the room may benefit from additional microphones, dedicated speakers, or a modular conferencing setup that delivers consistent audio coverage throughout the space.

This is why a professional assessment is so important before selecting equipment.

Why a Site Survey Makes the Difference

At Boardtac Solutions, we believe that every successful video conferencing installation begins with understanding the meeting environment.

A site survey helps determine:

  • The most suitable camera position.
  • The best microphone placement.
  • Display requirements.
  • Cable routing.
  • Network connectivity.
  • Power availability.
  • Future expansion requirements.

This ensures the recommended solution matches the room and delivers the expected meeting experience.

Our Video Conferencing Services

Boardtac Solutions provides complete video conferencing solutions for:

  • Boardrooms.
  • Corporate offices.
  • Government institutions.
  • Hospitals.
  • Universities and schools.
  • Training centres.
  • Conference facilities.
  • Hybrid meeting spaces.

Our services include consultation, system design, equipment supply, installation, configuration, testing, user training, and ongoing technical support.

Why Choose Boardtac Solutions?

We don’t believe in recommending the same conferencing system for every room.

Instead, we assess your requirements and recommend solutions based on room size, participant capacity, meeting objectives, and your available budget.

Whether you need an entry-level solution for a small meeting room or an enterprise-grade conferencing system for executive boardrooms, we help you invest in equipment that delivers reliable performance and clear communication.

A successful meeting starts long before the first person joins the call. It starts with choosing the right video conferencing solution.

If you’re planning a new installation or experiencing challenges with your current conferencing system, Boardtac Solutions is ready to help you design a solution that works for your space—not just your budget.

CCTV Installation and Cable Rerouting for a Hotel in Kisaju, Kitengela

Hotels require reliable CCTV surveillance, television connectivity, and network access across guest rooms and shared areas. However, installing or upgrading these systems can become complex when a building has no suitable cable routes, concealed conduits, or accessible pathways for new infrastructure.

Boardtac Solutions recently completed extensive CCTV, TV aerial, and network data cabling works for a hotel in Kisaju, Kitengela. The project covered six guest rooms, corridors, the rooftop, and the hotel compound.

The work involved more than mounting CCTV cameras. New cable routes had to be created, existing services had to be rerouted, conduit pathways had to be installed, and the CCTV system had to be configured and tested while technical work continued throughout the building.

Quick Answer: What Is Involved in CCTV Installation Where No Cable Routes Exist?

When a building does not have suitable routes for CCTV or data cables, professional installation may require careful planning, controlled wall work, creation of new pathways, installation of protective conduits, cable routing, equipment mounting, configuration, testing, and final system verification.

The objective is not only to install cameras but also to create an organised and practical infrastructure that supports reliable operation while keeping cables protected and properly managed.

The Hotel’s Installation Challenge

The hotel required CCTV coverage and improved cable routing across several areas of the property.

The project included:

  • Six hotel rooms.
  • Internal corridors.
  • The rooftop.
  • The hotel compound.
  • CCTV camera locations.
  • TV aerial connection points.
  • Network data points.

One of the main challenges was that suitable cable routes were not available for some of the required CCTV and data connections. Existing pathways did not provide the necessary routes to reach the new locations requested by the customer.

This meant that the project required additional civil and technical work before the CCTV cameras and related connections could be completed.

Planning the Cable Routes

Before installation, the required service locations and cable pathways were assessed to determine how the CCTV, TV aerial, and network data cables could be routed effectively.

The work required careful coordination because several systems were being handled within the same building.

The installation planning considered:

  • The required CCTV camera locations.
  • The routes between the rooms and the external electrical duct.
  • The routing requirements for TV aerial connections.
  • The location of network data points.
  • The need to establish suitable pathways where no existing routes were available.
  • The need to protect and conceal the installed cables.
  • Access requirements for the rooftop, corridors, and compound.

Proper planning helped ensure that the different services could be installed in an organised manner while supporting future inspection and maintenance.

Civil Works and Creation of New Cable Pathways

Because suitable routes were not available in some areas, controlled cutting and chasing work was carried out on the concrete walls to create the required pathways.

The civil works supported:

  • Rerouting of TV aerial cables from the hotel rooms toward the external electrical duct.
  • Rerouting of network data point cables for the six rooms.
  • Creation of new cable routes for CCTV camera connections.
  • Establishment of practical pathways where existing conduits or cable routes were unavailable.
  • Preparation of the building infrastructure for the required technical installations.

The work was completed carefully to support the new cable routes while maintaining an organised installation environment.

Conduit Installation and Cable Protection

Conduit pipes were installed along the required routes to help protect and conceal the CCTV, TV aerial, and network data cables.

The conduit installation supported:

  • Better cable organisation.
  • Protection of cables along the installed routes.
  • A cleaner and more professional appearance.
  • Reduced exposure of cables.
  • Easier future inspection and maintenance.

The cables were then routed, secured, and terminated according to the requirements of the installed systems.

CCTV Camera Installation Across the Hotel

CCTV cameras were installed and mounted at the required locations across the property.

The CCTV installation covered areas including:

  • Hotel rooms.
  • Internal corridors.
  • The rooftop.
  • The hotel compound.

Camera locations were implemented according to the customer’s requested coverage requirements and the practical conditions of the building.

The installation process included:

  • Preparing the required camera locations.
  • Mounting the CCTV cameras.
  • Routing and securing the necessary cables.
  • Connecting the cameras to the surveillance system.
  • Checking communication between the cameras and the recording system.
  • Adjusting camera positioning where required.
  • Verifying the required coverage areas.

CCTV Configuration and System Testing

After the physical installation work was completed, the CCTV system was configured and tested.

The technical work included:

  • Camera configuration.
  • Verification of camera communication.
  • Confirmation that the installed cameras were accessible through the surveillance system.
  • Testing of camera video feeds.
  • Checking the required viewing areas.
  • Verification of system operation.
  • Troubleshooting and correction of technical issues identified during installation.
  • Final testing and commissioning.

The system was tested to confirm that the installed CCTV cameras and related connections were operating as required.

TV Aerial and Network Data Point Works

In addition to the CCTV installation, the project included cable rerouting for television and network services.

The work covered:

  • Rerouting TV aerial cables for the six hotel rooms.
  • Rerouting network data point cables.
  • Establishing suitable routes from the rooms toward the external electrical duct.
  • Installing protective conduits for the relevant cable pathways.
  • Pulling, securing, and terminating the required cables.
  • Checking the relevant connections after installation.

Integrating the CCTV, TV aerial, and network data works within one coordinated project helped support a more organised building infrastructure.

Four Days of On-Site Technical Work

The project involved four days of on-site technical work due to the combination of civil works, cable rerouting, conduit installation, CCTV mounting, system configuration, testing, and related building work.

The site work included:

  • Technical labour.
  • Civil and cable-route preparation.
  • CCTV installation.
  • TV aerial cable rerouting.
  • Network data cable rerouting.
  • Conduit installation.
  • Cable management.
  • System configuration.
  • Troubleshooting.
  • Testing and commissioning.
  • Coordination of work across the rooms and other hotel areas.

Technician accommodation and related site expenses were also required during the four-day installation period.

Why Professional CCTV Installation Is Important for Hotels

A hotel CCTV system may cover guest access areas, corridors, entrances, the compound, service areas, and other locations identified by management.

Professional installation helps ensure that:

  • Cameras are installed at suitable locations.
  • Cable routes are properly planned.
  • Cables are protected and managed.
  • CCTV equipment is configured correctly.
  • Camera coverage is checked after installation.
  • The surveillance system is tested before handover.
  • The installation supports future maintenance and system expansion.

The quality of the infrastructure behind the cameras is as important as the cameras themselves.

Conduits help protect, organise, and conceal cables. They can also support easier inspection and maintenance when properly planned and installed.

Can CCTV cameras be installed in hotel corridors and compounds?

Yes. CCTV cameras can be installed in hotel corridors, compounds, entrances, rooftop areas, and other approved locations based on the property’s security requirements and coverage plan.

Can CCTV, TV aerial and network cabling be completed as one project?

Yes. Coordinating these services can help reduce repeated building work and support more organised cable routing when the project is properly planned.

How long does a hotel CCTV installation take?

The installation period depends on the number of cameras, building size, cable routes, access conditions, existing infrastructure, and whether additional civil work or new conduits are required.

Do you provide CCTV installation services in Kisaju and Kitengela?

Yes. Boardtac Solutions provides CCTV installation, network cabling, system configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and related ICT and security services in Kisaju, Kitengela, Nairobi, and other locations across Kenya.

IP Phones Not Making Calls? How Boardtac Solutions Restored a Business VoIP Telephone System in Kilimani, Nairobi

When office IP phones suddenly stop making internal or external calls, communication can quickly become difficult. Employees may be unable to reach colleagues, customers may experience delays, and normal business operations can be affected.

Although the problem may appear to be a faulty IP phone, the actual cause may be related to the VoIP telephone system, IP PBX configuration, GSM gateway, call-routing settings, SIP registration, or network connectivity.

In July 2026, Boardtac Solutions responded to a service request from a business in Kilimani, Nairobi, where the office telephone system was experiencing both internal and external calling problems. External calls through the GSM gateway were not working correctly, while one affected IP phone could not make internal extension calls.

What initially appeared to be a simple IP phone issue required a systematic assessment of the wider business communication system.

Quick Answer: Why Are IP Phones Not Making Calls?

An IP phone may fail to make calls because of incorrect PBX settings, failed SIP registration, extension configuration problems, GSM gateway routing errors, network connectivity issues, or changes to the telephone system.

The phone itself may still be functional. Proper troubleshooting helps identify the actual source of the problem and can restore communication without unnecessary equipment replacement.

The Customer’s Challenge

The customer relied on a business VoIP telephone system for daily communication. Office users operated IP phones connected to an IP PBX, while a GSM gateway supported outbound calling through the mobile network.

The reported problems included:

  • Office extensions could not make external calls through the GSM gateway.
  • One IP phone could not communicate with other internal extensions.
  • Daily communication between employees and external contacts was affected.
  • It was unclear whether the problem was caused by the IP phone, the PBX, the GSM gateway, or the office network.

Because several components work together in a business telephone system, replacing the affected phone without proper diagnosis could have failed to solve the underlying problem.

Our Technical Assessment

Boardtac Solutions carried out a structured assessment of the telephone system before recommending any equipment replacement.

The technical checks included:

  • Verifying the GSM gateway configuration.
  • Reviewing IP PBX extension settings.
  • Checking the connection between office extensions and the GSM gateway.
  • Examining outbound call-routing configuration.
  • Testing internal extension-to-extension communication.
  • Checking the affected IP phone configuration.
  • Verifying communication between the IP phone and the IP PBX.
  • Testing internal and external calling services.
  • Confirming that the relevant telephone system components were communicating correctly.

The assessment focused on identifying the actual cause of the communication failure rather than assuming that the IP phone hardware was defective.

The Solution

After identifying the configuration and communication issues affecting the system, our technical team completed the required corrective work.

The service included:

  • Reconfiguring the GSM gateway.
  • Restoring external calling services.
  • Reconnecting and configuring office extensions to use the appropriate GSM gateway routes for outbound calls.
  • Reconfiguring the affected IP phone.
  • Restoring internal extension-to-extension communication.
  • Testing internal calls between office users.
  • Testing external calling through the GSM gateway.
  • Verifying that the restored services were operating correctly.
  • Completing final system testing and commissioning.

Following the reconfiguration and testing process, the affected office telephone services were restored without unnecessary replacement of the existing equipment.

Why IP Phones May Stop Making Calls

An IP phone is only one part of a larger communication system. A problem affecting the PBX, network, gateway, extension settings, or call-routing configuration can prevent calls even when the phone itself is operational.

Common causes may include:

  • Incorrect IP PBX configuration.
  • SIP registration problems.
  • Incorrect extension settings.
  • GSM gateway configuration errors.
  • Outbound call-routing problems.
  • Network connectivity issues.
  • Changes to telephone system settings.
  • Power interruptions affecting communication equipment.
  • Incorrect gateway or trunk assignments.
  • Configuration inconsistencies following system changes.
  • Communication problems between the IP phone and PBX.

Professional diagnosis helps determine which part of the system is responsible before equipment is replaced.

Common Signs Your Office Telephone System Needs Attention

Your business may require professional VoIP support if you experience any of the following:

  • IP phones cannot make external calls.
  • Internal extension calls are failing.
  • One office phone cannot call other extensions.
  • Calls are not routing through the GSM gateway.
  • An IP phone displays a registration error.
  • Office extensions become unreachable.
  • Calls disconnect unexpectedly.
  • Voice quality becomes poor or unstable.
  • Calls take too long to connect.
  • Telephone services fail after a network change.
  • Calling problems begin after a power interruption.
  • Some phones work while others cannot make or receive calls.

Early diagnosis can reduce communication downtime and help prevent unnecessary replacement costs.

Why Professional VoIP Troubleshooting Matters

A business telephone system may include IP phones, an IP PBX, GSM gateways, SIP services, network switches, routers, and other communication components. These systems must be configured correctly and work together reliably.

A fault in one configuration area can affect multiple users or prevent specific services from working.

Professional troubleshooting can help identify issues involving:

  • IP phone configuration.
  • IP PBX programming.
  • Extension setup.
  • SIP registration.
  • GSM gateway configuration.
  • Outbound call routing.
  • Internal extension communication.
  • SIP trunk connectivity.
  • Office network connectivity.
  • Voice communication performance.
  • Business telephone system maintenance.

A systematic approach helps restore services while avoiding unnecessary changes or equipment replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my IP phone not making calls?

The cause may be related to SIP registration, extension settings, PBX configuration, network connectivity, call routing, or gateway configuration. The IP phone may not necessarily be faulty.

Why can my IP phone make internal calls but not external calls?

If internal calls work but external calls fail, the issue may be related to outbound call routing, a GSM gateway, a SIP trunk, or the configuration that connects office extensions to external calling services.

Why can my IP phone make external calls but not internal calls?

The issue may involve the extension configuration, internal call-routing settings, PBX programming, or communication between the phone and the IP PBX.

Can a GSM gateway cause office phones to fail to make external calls?

Yes. If the GSM gateway configuration, connection, routing, or extension assignment is incorrect, office users may be unable to place external calls through the gateway.

Does an IP phone problem always mean that the phone is faulty?

No. Many calling problems originate from the PBX, network, gateway, extension settings, SIP registration, or call-routing configuration rather than the phone hardware.

Can a VoIP telephone system be restored without replacing equipment?

In some cases, yes. If the problem is caused by configuration or communication issues, professional troubleshooting and reconfiguration may restore the existing system without replacing the affected equipment.

Do you provide IP phone and VoIP support in Kenya?

Yes. Boardtac Solutions provides IP phone configuration, VoIP troubleshooting, PBX support, GSM gateway services, telephone system maintenance, and related business communication solutions in Nairobi and across Kenya.

Best CCTV Contractor in Kenya – Professional CCTV Installation by Boardtac Solutions

Are you looking for a reliable CCTV contractor in Kenya? Boardtac Solutions provides professional CCTV installation, CCTV repair, maintenance, upgrades, system configuration, and remote viewing solutions for homes, offices, apartments, schools, shops, warehouses, institutions, and commercial properties.

Choosing the right CCTV contractor is important because the performance of a surveillance system depends on more than the cameras. Proper site assessment, camera placement, cable installation, recording configuration, storage capacity, network setup, testing, and technical support all affect how well a CCTV system performs.

Boardtac Solutions provides practical CCTV solutions designed around the security requirements, property layout, and budget of each customer.

Why Choose Boardtac Solutions as Your CCTV Contractor in Kenya?

Boardtac Solutions provides professional CCTV services from system planning to installation, testing, customer guidance, and technical support.

Our CCTV services include:

  • Professional CCTV site assessment.
  • CCTV system design and planning.
  • CCTV installation for homes and businesses.
  • Indoor and outdoor CCTV camera installation.
  • IP camera and analogue CCTV installation.
  • DVR and NVR installation and configuration.
  • CCTV hard drive installation and replacement.
  • CCTV remote viewing setup on smartphones.
  • CCTV repair and troubleshooting.
  • Preventive CCTV maintenance.
  • CCTV system upgrades and expansion.
  • CCTV camera replacement.
  • CCTV network configuration.
  • CCTV integration with access control, alarm, intercom, and ICT systems.

As an experienced CCTV contractor in Kenya, Boardtac Solutions focuses on installing surveillance systems that are practical, reliable, easy to use, and suitable for the customer’s environment.

Professional CCTV Site Assessment in Kenya

A professional CCTV installation begins with understanding the property and identifying the areas that require surveillance.

Before installing cameras, Boardtac Solutions considers:

  • Property size and layout.
  • Entrances and exit points.
  • Gates and perimeter areas.
  • Parking and loading areas.
  • Offices, stores, corridors, and common areas.
  • Lighting conditions.
  • Possible camera blind spots.
  • Cable routes.
  • Recording requirements.
  • Internet and network availability.
  • Future CCTV expansion requirements.

A proper assessment helps determine the suitable number of cameras, camera locations, recording equipment, storage requirements, and installation approach.

The purpose is not simply to install as many cameras as possible. The goal is to provide useful CCTV coverage in the areas that matter most.

Professional CCTV Camera Installation

Correct camera positioning is essential for effective surveillance.

A camera installed at an unsuitable height or angle may provide a wide view but fail to capture useful details. Poor camera placement may also create blind spots, glare, reflections, poor night images, or unnecessary coverage.

Boardtac Solutions positions CCTV cameras according to the purpose of each area. Depending on the property, cameras may be installed to monitor:

  • Main entrances.
  • Gates.
  • Parking areas.
  • Reception areas.
  • Office entrances.
  • Corridors.
  • Shops and retail spaces.
  • Stores and inventory areas.
  • Warehouses.
  • Loading and delivery areas.
  • Perimeter sections.
  • Shared residential areas.

Professional camera placement helps improve surveillance coverage and reduce avoidable blind spots.

Neat and Reliable CCTV Cabling

CCTV cabling affects the appearance, reliability, and future maintenance of a surveillance system.

Poorly routed or unsupported cables can create an untidy installation and may increase the risk of cable damage, connection problems, or difficult troubleshooting.

Boardtac Solutions aims to provide organized CCTV cable installation while considering cable protection, accessibility, property appearance, and future maintenance.

Proper cable management can also make future CCTV upgrades, camera replacement, troubleshooting, and system expansion easier.

CCTV Installation for Homes in Kenya

Home CCTV systems can help homeowners monitor important areas such as gates, entrances, parking spaces, driveways, compounds, and perimeter sections.

Boardtac Solutions provides home CCTV installation based on the layout and security requirements of the property.

A suitable home CCTV system may support:

  • Live camera monitoring.
  • Day and night surveillance.
  • Recorded video playback.
  • Smartphone remote viewing.
  • Multiple-user access where supported.
  • Monitoring while away from home.

The recommended CCTV solution depends on the property size, areas requiring coverage, available internet connection, recording requirements, and budget.

CCTV Installation for Businesses in Kenya

Businesses require CCTV systems that support security, operational monitoring, asset protection, and incident review.

Boardtac Solutions provides CCTV installation for:

  • Offices.
  • Shops.
  • Retail businesses.
  • Schools.
  • Apartments.
  • Warehouses.
  • Hotels.
  • Institutions.
  • Commercial buildings.
  • Industrial facilities.

Business CCTV systems can be designed to monitor entrances, reception areas, corridors, workspaces, stores, inventory areas, parking spaces, loading areas, and other important locations.

The CCTV system can also be planned to support future expansion as the business grows.

CCTV Remote Viewing on Your Smartphone

Many customers want to view their CCTV cameras while away from the property.

Boardtac Solutions configures compatible CCTV systems for remote viewing through supported smartphone, tablet, or computer applications.

Depending on the system, authorized users may be able to:

  • View live CCTV footage.
  • Review recorded footage.
  • Monitor cameras while away.
  • Check whether cameras are online.
  • Receive supported notifications.
  • Access multiple cameras from one application.

Remote viewing depends on compatible equipment, correct configuration, internet availability, and network performance.

DVR and NVR Installation and Configuration

The DVR or NVR is the main recording device in many CCTV systems. It manages camera connections, video recording, storage, playback, user access, and remote viewing.

Boardtac Solutions provides professional DVR and NVR installation and configuration, including:

  • Camera connection.
  • Recording setup.
  • Hard drive configuration.
  • Date and time settings.
  • User account setup.
  • Remote viewing configuration.
  • Network settings.
  • Playback testing.
  • System health checks.

Correct configuration helps ensure that the CCTV system records and operates as expected.

CCTV Repair and Troubleshooting in Kenya

CCTV systems may develop faults because of power problems, damaged cables, failed hard drives, network issues, camera failure, incorrect settings, aging equipment, or environmental conditions.

Boardtac Solutions provides CCTV troubleshooting and repair for common problems such as:

  • CCTV cameras showing no image.
  • Cameras going offline.
  • CCTV footage not recording.
  • DVR or NVR disk errors.
  • Disk exception messages.
  • Remote viewing problems.
  • Poor image quality.
  • Intermittent camera connection.
  • CCTV systems affected by power events.
  • Failed recording equipment.
  • Network camera connection problems.

A professional diagnosis is important because the same symptom may have different causes. For example, missing CCTV footage may be related to a hard drive fault, recording settings, storage configuration, camera connection, power supply, or recorder failure.

CCTV Maintenance Services

Regular CCTV maintenance helps identify problems before they affect important surveillance footage.

Boardtac Solutions provides CCTV maintenance and system checks that may include:

  • Checking camera operation.
  • Confirming that cameras are online.
  • Checking recorded footage.
  • Reviewing hard drive and storage status.
  • Checking DVR or NVR operation.
  • Inspecting CCTV connections.
  • Checking remote viewing.
  • Confirming the correct date and time.
  • Identifying possible system faults.

Customers should regularly check recorded playback because seeing live cameras on a phone does not always confirm that the CCTV system is recording correctly.

CCTV Hard Drive and Recording Problems

The CCTV hard drive stores recorded surveillance footage and is an important part of the system.

CCTV hard drives operate under continuous recording workloads and may eventually fail. Power fluctuations, unstable electricity, aging, heat, and long operating hours may also affect storage equipment.

Common signs of a CCTV recording problem include:

  • Disk error messages.
  • Disk exception warnings.
  • Missing recorded footage.
  • Recording stopping unexpectedly.
  • The recorder failing to detect the hard drive.
  • Playback showing no available video.

Boardtac Solutions can assess CCTV recording problems and determine whether the issue may be related to the hard drive, recorder, power, configuration, or another system component.

CCTV System Upgrades and Expansion

An existing CCTV system may require additional cameras, increased storage, improved image quality, new recording equipment, or better remote access.

Boardtac Solutions provides CCTV upgrades and expansion services based on the condition and compatibility of the existing system.

Possible upgrades include:

  • Adding CCTV cameras.
  • Replacing faulty cameras.
  • Increasing recording storage.
  • Upgrading a DVR or NVR.
  • Improving remote viewing.
  • Upgrading network infrastructure.
  • Reorganizing CCTV cabling.
  • Expanding surveillance coverage.

An assessment is recommended before upgrading an existing system because older equipment may have compatibility or capacity limitations.

CCTV Integration with Access Control and Security Systems

CCTV can work alongside other security and ICT systems to improve monitoring and access management.

Boardtac Solutions supports suitable integration with:

  • Biometric access control.
  • Smart door access systems.
  • Video door intercoms.
  • Alarm systems.
  • Office networks.
  • Internet infrastructure.
  • ICT support systems.

Integrating compatible technologies can help businesses and property owners improve security visibility and manage access more effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions About CCTV Contractors in Kenya

How much does CCTV installation cost in Kenya?

The cost of CCTV installation depends on the number of cameras, camera type, property size, cable distance, recording capacity, storage requirements, installation conditions, and network or power requirements.

How do I choose a CCTV contractor in Kenya?

Choose a CCTV contractor that provides proper site assessment, clear recommendations, professional installation, reliable equipment, correct system configuration, testing, customer guidance, maintenance, and technical support.

The contractor should understand camera placement, recording requirements, networking, storage, power considerations, and future system expansion.

How many CCTV cameras do I need?

The number of cameras depends on the size and layout of the property, the areas requiring surveillance, possible blind spots, and the required level of coverage.

A professional CCTV assessment can help determine the suitable number and location of cameras.

Can I view my CCTV cameras on my phone?

Yes. Many modern CCTV systems support remote viewing through a smartphone application. The system must be compatible and correctly configured, and reliable internet access is required.

How long will CCTV footage be stored?

CCTV recording duration depends on the number of cameras, camera resolution, recording settings, storage capacity, recording schedule, and the amount of activity captured.

Automatic Door Opening Systems in Kenya for Hospitals, Banks, Offices and Commercial Buildings.

Automatic doors are becoming an important part of modern building security, accessibility, hygiene and controlled movement in Kenya. Hospitals, operating theatres, pharmacies, banks, offices, laboratories, data centres and other controlled environments increasingly require doors that can open automatically while still restricting access to authorized users.

Boardtac Solutions supplies and installs automatic door opening systems in Kenya for hospitals, operating theatres, banks, offices, pharmacies, laboratories, data centres and commercial buildings. Our solutions can combine automatic swing door operators, face recognition access control, safety detection, controlled exit, electromagnetic locking and video intercom systems depending on the requirements of the site.

Our approach is not simply to automate a door. We assess the building, door configuration, access requirements, user movement and safety requirements before recommending an appropriate solution.

What Is an Automatic Door Opening System?

An automatic door opening system is a powered door solution that allows a door to open and close without requiring the user to manually push or pull it.

Depending on the application, the door can be activated through technologies such as:

  • Face recognition.
  • Access control credentials.
  • Touch-free exit devices.
  • Visitor verification through video intercom.
  • Presence and safety detection.
  • Other authorized access methods.

For hospitals and other controlled facilities, automatic door automation can be integrated with an access control system so that only authorized personnel are allowed to enter restricted areas.

This makes automatic door automation different from a basic automatic entrance door. The system can combine door movement, access control, safety detection and visitor management into one coordinated solution.

Automatic Door Services by Boardtac Solutions in Kenya

Boardtac Solutions provides complete automatic door solutions from initial site assessment through installation, testing and commissioning.

Our automatic door services include:

  • Automatic door site surveys.
  • Automatic door system design.
  • Supply of automatic door operators.
  • Automatic swing door installation.
  • Double-leaf door automation.
  • Face recognition access integration.
  • Access control integration.
  • Door safety detection systems.
  • No-touch exit solutions.
  • Electromagnetic locking solutions where required.
  • Video intercom integration.
  • Power supply and backup solutions.
  • System programming and configuration.
  • Testing and commissioning.
  • Staff orientation and handover.
  • Preventive maintenance.
  • Technical support.
  • Existing automatic door upgrades.

The exact combination of equipment depends on the building, door type, security requirements and intended use.

Automatic Door Systems for Hospitals in Kenya

Hospitals are among the environments where automatic doors can provide significant operational benefits.

Medical staff may frequently move between treatment areas while carrying equipment, documents or other items. In these situations, manually opening a door can be inconvenient and creates another frequently touched surface.

Boardtac Solutions can design automatic access solutions for areas such as:

  • Operating theatres.
  • Theatre entrances.
  • Intensive care units.
  • Pharmacies.
  • Laboratories.
  • Isolation areas.
  • Medical stores.
  • Restricted staff areas.
  • Diagnostic and imaging departments.
  • Hospital offices.
  • Controlled medical environments.

The objective is not simply to make a door automatic. The system should be designed around the movement of people, access requirements, door type, security level and safety requirements of the facility.

Automatic Theatre Doors and Controlled Hospital Access.

Operating theatres require careful consideration because they combine hygiene requirements, controlled access and frequent movement of medical personnel.

An automatic theatre door solution can provide:

Hands-free access: Authorized personnel can approach the door without having to operate a conventional handle.

Controlled entry: Face recognition or another access control method can be used to restrict entry to approved personnel.

Automatic opening and closing: The door operator manages the movement of the door after an authorized access event.

Safety protection: Door safety detection can help prevent the door from closing when a person or object is detected in the protected area.

Controlled exit: Staff can leave the restricted area using an appropriate touch-free or controlled exit method.

For double-leaf theatre doors, the automation system can be designed to operate the door leaves together according to the requirements of the installation.

Face Recognition Automatic Door Access.

Face recognition is increasingly being used as a contactless method of access control.

Instead of using a physical key, card or fingerprint, an authorized person approaches the entrance and the recognition device verifies the person’s face.

When the person is authorized, the access control system can trigger the automatic door to open.

The basic user experience is straightforward:

Approach → Recognition → Authorization → Door Opens → Safe Passage → Door Closes.

Face recognition can be particularly useful in environments where staff need quick access without repeatedly touching access devices.

It can be used for:

  • Hospital staff entrances.
  • Operating theatres.
  • Pharmacies.
  • Laboratories.
  • Corporate offices.
  • Restricted rooms.
  • Server rooms.
  • Data centres.
  • Staff-only areas.
  • Secure commercial facilities.

The exact access technology and configuration should be selected after assessing the environment and the customer’s security requirements.

Contactless Access for Healthcare Environments.

Contactless access can be particularly useful in hospitals because staff may need to move through doors frequently.

A properly designed automatic door solution can reduce the need to physically operate door handles while maintaining controlled access.

This can support:

  • Better workflow.
  • Reduced unnecessary physical contact.
  • Convenient movement of authorized staff.
  • Improved access control.
  • A more modern healthcare environment.

Automatic doors should, however, be treated as part of a wider facility design. Door operation, access control, emergency procedures and safety protection should all be considered during system selection.

Automatic Door Safety Systems.

Safety is one of the most important considerations when installing an automatic door.

An automatic door should not simply open and close. It should also be designed to protect people passing through the doorway.

Boardtac Solutions can incorporate door safety detection systems, including safety light curtains, where appropriate to the door design and application.

These systems are intended to detect people or objects within the protected doorway area and help prevent unsafe door closure.

Safety considerations are particularly important in:

  • Hospitals.
  • Operating theatres.
  • Pharmacies.
  • Offices with heavy pedestrian traffic.
  • Commercial buildings.
  • Public facilities.
  • Accessible entrances.

The correct safety arrangement depends on the door design, traffic pattern, installation environment and manufacturer’s specifications.

Automatic Double Door Opening Systems.

Many commercial and healthcare buildings use double-leaf doors because they provide a wider passage for people, beds, equipment and other large items.

Boardtac Solutions provides automatic solutions for double swing doors and double-leaf entrances, including applications where both door leaves need coordinated operation.

These installations can be suitable for:

  • Hospital theatre doors.
  • Main office entrances.
  • Restricted departments.
  • Commercial buildings.
  • Healthcare facilities.
  • Accessible entrances.
  • Controlled staff entrances.

A site assessment is important before selecting the appropriate operator because door size, weight, construction, usage frequency and available space can all affect the recommended solution.

Video Intercom Integration for Automatic Doors.

Automatic access does not mean every visitor should automatically be allowed inside.

For many hospitals, offices and secure facilities, visitors first need to communicate with someone inside the building.

Boardtac Solutions can integrate SIP video intercom systems with automatic door access control.

For example, a visitor arriving at a controlled hospital entrance can:

  1. Request access using the external video intercom.
  2. Communicate with personnel inside the facility.
  3. Allow staff to see the visitor.
  4. Have the request verified by the responsible person.
  5. Receive remote access authorization where appropriate.

This is particularly useful for:

  • Hospital theatre entrances.
  • Reception areas.
  • Pharmacies.
  • Staff-only departments.
  • Corporate offices.
  • Secure buildings.
  • Restricted commercial areas.

The result is a complete access workflow rather than simply installing an automatic door operator.

Automatic Door Access Control for Banks.

Banks and financial institutions require controlled access to sensitive areas.

Automatic door systems can be integrated with access control for areas such as:

  • Staff-only entrances.
  • Cash handling areas.
  • Records rooms.
  • Server rooms.
  • Restricted offices.
  • Secure operational areas.

Face recognition can provide a convenient access method for authorized personnel, while video intercom systems can help staff verify visitors before access is granted.

For financial institutions, the objective is to combine security, controlled movement and convenience without compromising the operational requirements of the facility.

Automatic Doors for Offices and Commercial Buildings.

Modern offices increasingly require secure access without creating unnecessary inconvenience for employees and visitors.

Automatic doors can be used at:

  • Main office entrances.
  • Staff entrances.
  • Meeting areas.
  • Restricted departments.
  • Server rooms.
  • Executive offices.
  • Commercial buildings.
  • Shared office facilities.

They can also be integrated with existing access control systems where appropriate.

For businesses, automatic door automation can provide a more professional entrance while improving access management and reducing the need for users to physically operate doors.

Automatic Door Access for Data Centres and Server Rooms.

Data centres and server rooms contain equipment that should not be accessible to unauthorized personnel.

Automatic access control can provide an additional layer of security by allowing only approved users to enter.

Depending on the customer’s requirements, access may be integrated with:

  • Face recognition.
  • Biometric access control.
  • Existing access control systems.
  • Video intercom systems.
  • Controlled exit devices.
  • Door monitoring.

The correct solution should be determined by the security requirements and operational environment of the facility.

Automatic Door Systems for Pharmacies and Laboratories.

Pharmacies and laboratories can benefit from controlled, hands-free access where staff movement is frequent and access must be restricted.

Automatic doors can help separate public areas from controlled staff areas while providing authorized personnel with convenient entry.

Potential applications include:

  • Hospital pharmacies.
  • Medical laboratories.
  • Research laboratories.
  • Medical stores.
  • Restricted preparation areas.
  • Staff-only rooms.

The system can be designed around the specific movement patterns and access requirements of the facility.

Types of Doors That Can Be Automated.

Automatic door automation is not limited to one particular door construction.

Depending on the door and application, solutions can be considered for:

  • Single swing doors.
  • Double swing doors.
  • Double-leaf theatre doors.
  • Glass doors.
  • Aluminium doors.
  • Steel doors.
  • Wooden doors.
  • Commercial doors.
  • Restricted-access doors.

Not every existing door is automatically suitable for automation.

A professional assessment should consider the door’s construction, weight, dimensions, hinges, frame condition, opening direction, usage frequency and available mounting space before equipment is selected.

What Does an Automatic Door Installation Involve?

A professional automatic door project normally starts with a site survey.

At Boardtac Solutions, the assessment helps determine:

  • What type of door is being automated.
  • Whether the existing door is suitable.
  • How frequently the door will be used.
  • Who should be allowed to enter.
  • How users should exit.
  • Whether visitor verification is required.
  • What safety protection is appropriate.
  • Whether the door needs integration with other security systems.
  • Whether backup power is required.
  • How the solution should fit into the existing building environment.

The final equipment and installation approach are therefore determined by the site rather than applying the same solution to every door.

Why Professional Automatic Door Installation Matters

Automatic doors combine mechanical equipment, electronics, access control and safety systems.

Poorly selected or improperly installed equipment can result in:

  • Unreliable door movement.
  • Premature equipment wear.
  • Poor access control.
  • Door alignment problems.
  • Unsafe operation.
  • Unnecessary maintenance.
  • Poor user experience.

For this reason, automatic door installation should be handled by technicians who understand both door automation and access control integration.

Boardtac Solutions provides the complete project process, including assessment, equipment supply, installation, system integration, testing and commissioning.

Whether the requirement is a single automated door or a complete access-controlled theatre entrance, the project can begin with a professional site assessment.

Automatic Door Site Surveys in Kenya

A site survey is an important part of the process because every door and building is different.

Our team can assess:

  • Door construction.
  • Door leaf size and weight.
  • Existing hardware.
  • Traffic volume.
  • Access requirements.
  • Safety requirements.
  • Available power.
  • Existing security systems.
  • Visitor management requirements.
  • Required integration with other systems.

After the assessment, Boardtac Solutions can recommend a solution based on the actual requirements of the site.

Why Choose Boardtac Solutions for Automatic Doors in Kenya?

Boardtac Solutions combines automatic door automation, access control, CCTV, networking, intercom and security technology.

This is particularly valuable for projects where several systems need to work together.

For example, a hospital theatre entrance may require automatic door operators, face recognition access, safety detection, controlled exit, electromagnetic locking, backup power and video intercom communication.

Instead of treating each system as a separate installation, Boardtac Solutions can coordinate the solution as an integrated security and access project.

Our approach includes:

1. Site Assessment

We inspect the door, building layout and intended usage.

2. System Recommendation

We identify the appropriate automation and access control approach based on the application.

3. Equipment Supply

We supply the required automatic door and access control equipment.

4. Professional Installation

The equipment is installed and integrated according to the requirements of the project.

5. Testing and Commissioning

The complete system is tested to confirm that access, door movement, safety functions and connected systems operate as intended.

6. Handover and Support

The customer receives system orientation and ongoing technical support where required.

Automatic Door Maintenance and Support

Automatic doors contain moving mechanical and electronic components and should be maintained according to their usage and manufacturer’s recommendations.

Boardtac Solutions can provide technical support and maintenance services for automatic door systems.

Maintenance may involve checking the overall system condition, door operation, access control functionality, safety functions and associated equipment.

Regular professional maintenance can help identify developing problems before they result in unexpected downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions About Automatic Doors in Kenya

What is an automatic door opening system?

An automatic door opening system uses a powered door operator and an activation or access control method to open and close a door without requiring the user to manually push or pull it.

Can an existing door be automated?

In many cases, yes. However, the door must first be assessed to determine whether its construction, weight, hinges, frame and operating conditions are suitable for automation.

Can Deleted or Formatted CCTV Footage Be Recovered? Lessons from the Albert Ojwang Case

Many people believe that once CCTV footage has been deleted or a DVR hard drive has been formatted, the evidence is lost forever. However, recent investigations in the Albert Ojwang case have shown that this is not always true.

Digital forensic experts can often recover deleted CCTV recordings, provided the data has not been completely overwritten. This case serves as an important lesson for businesses, schools, hospitals, government institutions, and homeowners who rely on CCTV systems for security.

What Happened?

According to court proceedings and investigations by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), Albert Ojwang died while in police custody. During the investigation, officers examined the CCTV system at the station and found that the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) was not operating normally.

Investigators discovered that the DVR had been disconnected from its display. After reconnecting the system, they reviewed the device logs and found evidence indicating that the hard drives had been formatted after the incident. Despite these attempts to remove the recordings, forensic specialists later recovered significant amounts of CCTV footage, which was presented as evidence in court.

The case demonstrates that formatting a CCTV hard drive does not always permanently destroy digital evidence.

Can Deleted CCTV Footage Really Be Recovered?

Yes. In many situations, it can.

When footage is deleted from a DVR or NVR, the recorder often removes only the file references rather than immediately erasing the actual video data stored on the hard drive.

Similarly, when a hard drive is formatted, the recorder may recreate a new file system while leaving much of the original data intact. Until new recordings overwrite that storage space, specialized forensic software may still recover the deleted footage.

However, recovery is never guaranteed. Success depends on several factors, including:

  • Whether new recordings have overwritten the deleted data.
  • The type of DVR or NVR used.
  • The file system employed by the manufacturer.
  • The condition of the hard drive.
  • The expertise and tools available to the forensic examiner.

Why CCTV System Logs Matter

Most modern CCTV systems maintain internal logs.

These logs can record:

  • User logins.
  • Failed login attempts.
  • Hard drive formatting.
  • Hard drive replacement.
  • Camera disconnections.
  • System shutdowns.
  • Time and date changes.
  • Configuration changes.
  • Export of video footage.

Even if recordings are missing, these logs can help investigators determine who accessed the system and what actions were performed.

This is why protecting system logs is just as important as protecting the footage itself.

What Happens When a Hard Drive Is Formatted?

Formatting does not necessarily wipe every sector of the hard drive.

In many DVRs and NVRs, formatting simply prepares the disk for new recordings by resetting its indexing structure. The original video files may remain physically stored on the disk until new recordings gradually overwrite them.

Think of it like removing the table of contents from a book. The chapters may still exist until someone writes new pages over them.

This is why professional forensic recovery is often possible after formatting.

What Should You Do After a Serious Incident?

If your CCTV system captures an accident, theft, assault, vandalism, or any event that may become evidence, act carefully.

Do not:

  • Format the DVR or NVR.
  • Delete any recordings.
  • Replace the hard drive.
  • Reset the recorder.
  • Continue unnecessary recording if evidence preservation is critical.

Instead:

  • Secure the recorder immediately.
  • Limit access to authorized personnel only.
  • Document the date and time of the incident.
  • Contact investigators if required.
  • Engage qualified CCTV forensic experts if footage appears missing or deleted.

Quick action significantly increases the chances of successful recovery.

How Businesses Can Protect CCTV Evidence

Every organization should have clear CCTV security procedures.

Best practices include:

  • Use strong administrator passwords.
  • Limit administrator access to trusted personnel.
  • Enable audit logs where available.
  • Regularly check that cameras and recorders are functioning correctly.
  • Back up important footage immediately after major incidents.
  • Store exported evidence on secure external media.
  • Protect DVRs and NVRs from unauthorized physical access.
  • Use surveillance systems from reputable manufacturers that provide reliable logging and security features.

The Importance of Professional CCTV Installation

Many organizations invest heavily in cameras but overlook the importance of proper installation and maintenance.

A professionally installed CCTV system should include:

  • Correct hard drive configuration.
  • Reliable power protection.
  • Secure user access management.
  • Proper recording schedules.
  • Health monitoring of cameras and storage.
  • Regular maintenance and testing.

These measures help ensure that critical evidence is available when it is needed most.

Final Thoughts

The Albert Ojwang case highlights an important reality about digital evidence. Deleting CCTV footage or formatting a recorder does not always permanently erase recordings. In many cases, forensic specialists can recover valuable evidence, especially when the storage has not yet been overwritten.

For businesses, schools, hospitals, residential estates, government institutions, and homeowners, the lesson is clear. Protect your CCTV system, secure your recordings, and never assume that deleting footage removes every trace of what happened.

A well-managed CCTV system does more than record events. It protects lives, supports investigations, and preserves the truth when it matters most.

Why Your Office IP Telephone System Stops Working After Changing Internet Providers – A Real Case from a Nairobi Law Firm

Many businesses assume that changing an internet service provider (ISP) is as simple as plugging in a new router. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, especially when your office relies on an IP telephone system.

At Boardtac Solutions, we recently attended a service call from a law firm in Kilimani, Nairobi. Their office phone system had completely stopped working.

Their experience is a reminder of why proper documentation, regular maintenance, and vendor support are essential for any business communication system.

The Situation.

The law firm had invested in a professional VoIP telephone solution consisting of:

  • 14 Fanvil wireless IP phones.
  • One Yeastar S20 IP PBX.
  • One Yeastar TG200 GSM Gateway.
  • Two active GSM SIM cards.

The system had been working perfectly until they changed their internet service provider.

After the network change, the phones could no longer communicate with the PBX, leaving the office without an internal telephone system.

For a law firm, where communication is critical, this significantly affected daily operations.

The Biggest Challenge Wasn’t the Internet.

When our engineers arrived, the first step was to log in to the Yeastar S20 PBX so we could update the network configuration to match the new infrastructure.

Unfortunately, there was a major problem.

The client did not know:

  • The administrator username.
  • The administrator password.
  • The IP telephone system configuration.
  • The contact details of the previous installer.

Without administrative credentials, it becomes extremely difficult to modify system settings safely.

We spent several hours trying every available recovery option while working closely with the client.

When Resetting Became the Only Option.

After exhausting all available options, we made the decision to perform a complete factory reset of the PBX.

Although resetting an IP PBX should always be the last resort, it was the only practical solution because there was no way to access the existing configuration.

The entire telephone system then had to be rebuilt, including:

  • Reconfiguring the Yeastar S20 PBX.
  • Reconnecting the Fanvil wireless IP phones.
  • Configuring the Yeastar TG200 GSM Gateway.
  • Re-establishing extensions.
  • Testing internal and external calls.
  • Verifying communication between all devices.

Once completed, the office telephone system was restored and fully operational again.

Lessons Every Business Should Learn.

This service call highlights several important lessons for every organization using VoIP phones.

1. Always Keep Administrator Credentials.

Store usernames and passwords securely.

If your IT provider becomes unavailable, another engineer should still be able to support your system without unnecessary delays.

2. Document Your Network Infrastructure.

Every office should maintain documentation that includes:

  • IP addresses.
  • PBX login credentials.
  • Gateway configuration.
  • Extension numbering.
  • SIM card allocation.
  • Router settings.
  • Network diagrams.

Good documentation can save hours, or even days, of downtime.

3. Notify Your IT Provider Before Changing Internet Providers.

Changing an ISP often changes:

  • IP addressing.
  • Gateway settings.
  • DHCP configuration.
  • VLAN configuration.
  • Firewall rules.
  • SIP routing.

These changes can prevent VoIP systems from functioning correctly unless they are reconfigured.

4. Schedule Regular Preventive Maintenance.

Many businesses only seek technical support after a failure occurs.

Routine maintenance helps identify:

  • Configuration issues.
  • Hardware failures.
  • Firmware updates.
  • Security vulnerabilities.
  • Network performance problems.

Preventive maintenance minimizes downtime and extends the lifespan of your IT investment.

Shared Responsibility Between Customers and Vendors.

A successful IT system depends on collaboration.

Customers should:

  • Keep system documentation updated.
  • Store administrator credentials securely.
  • Inform their IT provider before making network changes.
  • Schedule routine maintenance.

IT vendors should:

  • Deliver complete documentation after installation.
  • Hand over administrator credentials, unless otherwise agreed.
  • Train users on basic system management.
  • Provide ongoing technical support.
  • Recommend periodic health checks.

When both parties fulfill their responsibilities, systems remain reliable, secure, and easier to maintain.

Why Choose Boardtac Solutions?

At Boardtac Solutions, we do not just install IP telephone systems. We help businesses keep them running efficiently through professional support, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and system recovery.

Whether your office uses Fanvil, Yeastar, Yealink, Grandstream, or other VoIP solutions, our engineers can diagnose issues, restore services, and ensure your communication infrastructure remains reliable.

If your office telephone system stopped working after changing your internet provider, or you are planning a network upgrade, involve your IT partner early to avoid unnecessary downtime.

Need Professional VoIP Support in Kenya?

  • IP PBX installation and configuration.
  • Fanvil IP phone installation.
  • Yeastar PBX support.
  • GSM gateway configuration.
  • SIP trunk setup.
  • Office telephone migration.
  • VoIP troubleshooting.
  • Network assessment.
  • Preventive maintenance.

A well-maintained communication system is not just an IT asset. It is a business continuity tool.

Home CCTV Installation Packages in Nairobi (2026): 4, 8 & 16 Camera CCTV Prices Explained

If you are searching for the cost of installing CCTV cameras in your home in Nairobi, you are not alone. Every day, homeowners ask questions such as:

  • How much does a 4 CCTV camera package cost in Nairobi?
  • What is the price of an 8 camera CCTV system?
  • How much does it cost to install 16 CCTV cameras in a home?
  • Why can’t a CCTV installer give an exact price over the phone?

At BoardTac Solutions, we believe in being transparent. Rather than giving unrealistic prices just to win a customer, we explain exactly what determines the final cost. This helps you make an informed decision and avoid unexpected charges later.

Quick Answer: Estimated Home CCTV Installation Prices in Nairobi (2026)

The prices below are estimates for standard residential installations.

PackageEstimated Price
4 Camera CCTV PackageKSh 38,000 – KSh 65,000
8 Camera CCTV PackageKSh 68,000 – KSh 120,000
16 Camera CCTV PackageKSh 145,000 – KSh 260,000+

These estimates include supply and installation in most residential homes. However, every property is different.

Why Isn’t There One Fixed CCTV Installation Price?

This is one of the most common questions we receive.

Imagine asking, “How much does it cost to build a house?” The answer depends on the size, design and materials used.

Home CCTV installation works the same way.

Before giving an accurate quotation, a professional installer should understand the site requirements.

Factors That Affect the Cost of Home CCTV Installation

1. Number of Cameras

A small bungalow may only require four cameras.

A maisonette, apartment block or larger compound may require eight, twelve or even sixteen cameras to eliminate blind spots.

Installing fewer cameras than required may leave areas uncovered.

2. Camera Quality

Not all CCTV cameras are the same.

Prices vary depending on features such as:

  • 2MP, 5MP or 8MP (4K) resolution.
  • Full-colour night vision.
  • Infrared night vision.
  • Audio recording.
  • Human and vehicle detection.
  • AI smart analytics.
  • Weather resistance.
  • Wide-angle lenses.

Higher-quality cameras provide clearer evidence and better long-term value.

3. DVR or NVR Specifications

The recorder is the heart of the CCTV system.

Different models support different numbers of cameras and advanced features such as remote viewing, AI detection and higher recording resolutions.

4. Hard Drive Capacity

Many customers assume every CCTV package includes the same storage.

It doesn’t.

Depending on your recording needs, your system may require:

  • 1TB HDD.
  • 2TB HDD.
  • 4TB HDD.
  • 6TB HDD or larger.

The larger the storage, the longer your footage is retained before being overwritten.

5. Cabling Requirements

One home may require only 80 metres of cable.

Another property may require over 300 metres due to the building layout.

Cable quality also matters. Cheap cables often cause signal problems and fail much sooner than quality cabling.

6. Installation Difficulty

The installation cost also depends on factors such as:

  • Single-storey or multi-storey building.
  • Concrete or gypsum walls.
  • Roof accessibility.
  • Ceiling type.
  • Outdoor trenching.
  • Pole mounting.
  • Distance between buildings.

7. Display Requirements

Some homeowners only want to monitor cameras using their smartphones.

Others require:

  • Dedicated CCTV monitor.
  • Smart TV viewing.
  • Office display screen.
  • Multiple viewing locations.

These requirements affect the final quotation.

8. Internet Configuration

Remote viewing requires proper internet configuration.

Depending on your network setup, additional networking equipment may be required.

Beware of Extremely Cheap CCTV Packages

When comparing quotations, remember that the cheapest offer is not always the best value.

Very low prices may indicate:

  • Low-quality cameras.
  • Refurbished equipment.
  • Fake hard drives.
  • Inferior cables.
  • Poor installation workmanship.
  • Lack of warranty.
  • No after-sales support.

A properly installed CCTV system should protect your family for many years.

Why Site Surveys Matter

Some customers ask for an exact quotation over WhatsApp or a phone call.

While we are happy to provide estimates, a site survey allows us to determine:

  • The correct number of cameras.
  • Best camera positions.
  • Cable routing.
  • Storage requirements.
  • Power availability.
  • Network setup.
  • Any special installation challenges.

This ensures you receive an accurate quotation without hidden costs.

BoardTac Solutions has built its reputation on honesty, transparency and professional workmanship.

Our customers appreciate that we do not promise unrealistic prices simply to secure a job. Instead, we recommend the most suitable CCTV solution based on your property’s security needs and budget.

We supply and install quality CCTV systems for:

  • Homes.
  • Apartments.
  • Residential estates.
  • Farmhouses.
  • Rental properties.
  • Businesses.
  • Offices.
  • Schools.

Our installations are neat, reliable and designed for long-term performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

A standard 4-camera home CCTV package typically costs between KSh 38,000 and KSh 65,000, depending on camera quality, storage capacity, wiring requirements and installation complexity.

How much is an 8 camera CCTV package?

Most 8-camera residential CCTV installations range from KSh 68,000 to KSh 120,000.

How much is a 16 camera CCTV installation?

For larger homes and residential compounds, a 16-camera CCTV package generally costs between KSh 145,000 and KSh 260,000 or more, depending on equipment specifications and site conditions.

Can I get an exact quotation without a site visit?

We can provide an estimated price. However, an exact quotation is best prepared after assessing the property to ensure the correct equipment and installation requirements are identified.
