Integrated Car Park Management System in Kenya – ANPR, UHF RFID, Boom Barriers and M-Pesa
Boardtac Solutions provides integrated car park management systems in Kenya for shopping malls, commercial buildings, residential developments, hospitals, hotels, office parks, institutions and other facilities that require secure, efficient and controlled vehicle access.
Our smart parking solutions can combine Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), UHF RFID vehicle identification, automatic boom barriers, parking management software, M-Pesa payment integration, CCTV surveillance and backup power. The system is designed around the site’s access points, vehicle traffic, parking arrangements, security requirements and preferred payment procedures.
This is a customised supply and installation service. Equipment quantities, software requirements, integrations and pricing are determined after assessing the site and confirming the project scope.
What the Smart Car Park Management System Includes
1. ANPR Vehicle Number Plate Recognition
ANPR cameras capture vehicle registration plates at designated entry and exit lanes. Where supported by the selected equipment and software, the system can identify registered vehicles, record entry and exit times, support authorised access and assist with parking fee calculations. Recognition performance depends on camera positioning, lighting, plate condition, vehicle speed and site conditions.
2. UHF RFID Vehicle Identification
UHF RFID readers work with compatible vehicle tags to identify registered vehicles without requiring the driver to present a card manually. This is useful for staff parking, residents, subscribers, fleet vehicles and other authorised users. Reader range, tag type and installation positions are selected according to the site layout and access requirements.
3. Automatic Boom Barriers
Automatic boom barriers control vehicle entry and exit based on the configured access rules. They can be integrated with ANPR, RFID readers, parking software and other approved access devices. Safety accessories, such as vehicle detection loops or compatible photoelectric sensors, can be included to help prevent the barrier from closing on a vehicle.
4. Parking Management Software
The software provides a central platform for managing vehicle access and parking operations. Depending on the selected solution, features may include vehicle registration, authorised-user management, entry and exit records, parking duration, fee configuration, operator accounts, transaction records and management reports.
5. M-Pesa Payment Integration
Where supported by the selected parking software and an approved payment integration, customers can pay parking charges through M-Pesa. The workflow can be configured to support the required payment confirmation, transaction recording and vehicle-exit authorisation process. The exact integration method, payment account requirements, transaction handling and any third-party charges must be confirmed during system design.
6. CCTV Surveillance and Monitoring
CCTV cameras can be installed at entry and exit lanes, payment points, ticketing areas and other strategic locations. Where supported, video footage and vehicle transaction records can help authorised staff investigate incidents and verify parking activity.
7. Network, Power and Supporting Infrastructure
The project may include network switches, structured cabling, communication links, electrical works, equipment cabinets, mounting structures, surge protection and backup power. These requirements are assessed during the site survey to establish a reliable installation.
How the System Works
- A vehicle approaches the designated entry lane.
- The system identifies the vehicle through ANPR, UHF RFID or another approved access method.
- The parking software checks the applicable access permissions or parking rules.
- The boom barrier opens when the configured authorisation conditions are met.
- The system records the entry and, where configured, calculates parking duration and applicable charges.
- At exit, the system checks the relevant payment or access conditions.
- Once the configured exit requirements are satisfied, the barrier opens and the transaction is recorded.
The precise workflow depends on whether the facility uses paid visitor parking, registered staff or resident access, season parking, fleet management or a combination of these arrangements.
Supply, Installation and Commissioning by Boardtac Solutions
Our project scope can include site assessment, system design, equipment supply, installation, configuration, integration, testing, commissioning and handover. The final quotation will identify the equipment, quantities, installation works, software, integrations and any exclusions agreed for the project.
Why a Site Survey Is Important
Every parking facility has different traffic volumes, entry and exit arrangements, lane widths, power availability, network infrastructure and payment requirements. A site survey helps determine suitable camera positions, RFID reader placement, barrier locations, cable routes, safety devices, power backup and the integration requirements.
It also helps establish whether separate entry and exit lanes, multiple barriers, ticketing equipment, intercoms, operator stations or additional CCTV coverage are required.
Who Is This Solution For?
- Shopping malls and retail centres.
- Commercial buildings and office parks.
- Apartments, gated communities and residential estates.
- Hospitals, hotels and educational institutions.
- Industrial facilities, warehouses and fleet parking areas.
- Private parking operators and mixed-use developments.
