Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fiber Splicing Technician to join our team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fiber optic splicing, termination, testing, and maintenance across various project sites.
This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with strong experience in fiber splicing and network infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct site assessments and prepare for fiber splicing and installation activities.
- Perform fiber optic splicing using fusion splicing machines for both single-mode and multi-mode fibers.
- Prepare fiber cables, including stripping, cleaving, and proper handling of fibers.
- Install and splice fiber in joints, closures, patch panels, and distribution boxes.
- Test fiber links using OTDR, power meters, and other testing equipment to ensure signal quality and performance.
- Troubleshoot and repair fiber network faults, including signal loss and breakages.
- Maintain accurate splicing records, test results, and documentation.
- Ensure proper labeling, cable management, and organization of fiber infrastructure.
- Adhere to safety standards and best practices when handling fiber optic equipment.
- Work closely with network engineers and project teams to complete installations on time.
Requirements:
- Certificate or Diploma in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, ICT, or a related field.
- Proven experience in fiber optic splicing and termination.
- Hands-on experience with fusion splicing machines, cleavers, and OTDR testing equipment.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic networks, including single-mode and multi-mode systems.
- Ability to read and interpret fiber network diagrams and schematics.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and precision in splicing work.
- Ability to work independently and in outdoor or field environments.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
