How We Solved a Common Office Door Stability Problem During an Office Relocation in Westlands, Nairobi
A Real Access Control Challenge We Encountered
This week, our team assisted one of our clients with relocating from Mpaka Road, Westlands, to their new offices at The Mirage on Chiromo Road, opposite Riverside Park, in the heart of Westlands.
Part of the relocation involved moving the CEO’s office access control system to the new premises. While the existing system had served its purpose well, the director wanted to address one concern that had become increasingly noticeable over time.
What initially appeared to be a straightforward office relocation project quickly became an opportunity to improve both the user experience and the overall feel of the office entrance.
The Existing System Worked, But There Was One Concern
The previous access control setup provided secure biometric authentication and reliable day-to-day operation.
However, the director had observed something that many office owners and facility managers experience with certain door locking configurations.
Although the door remained locked and secure, pushing against it could result in slight movement near the bottom section of the door. This did not indicate a fault or compromise security, but it affected the solid and premium feel expected in an executive office.
For organizations investing in high-quality office spaces, these details matter.
Understanding the Client’s Expectations
As preparations for the new office progressed, the CEO wanted a solution that would:
- Maintain secure biometric access.
- Improve the overall firmness of the door.
- Preserve the professional appearance of the entrance.
- Create a more natural and refined user experience.
Simply replicating the previous installation would have been the easiest approach. However, every building and every door presents unique characteristics.
Rather than assuming that what worked in one location would automatically be ideal in another, our engineers carried out an assessment of the new environment and developed a customized approach suited to the new office.
A Different Approach for a Better Experience
After evaluating the new office door and the client’s expectations, we decided not to reinstall the previous magnetic locking arrangement.
Instead, we completely removed the magnetic lock and implemented a different locking mechanism that works together with the door handle and integrates seamlessly with the existing biometric access system.
By allowing the locking mechanism to work in harmony with the door hardware itself, we were able to achieve a more solid and natural feel while maintaining secure access control.
The Result
The difference was immediately noticeable.
The client achieved:
Improved Door Stability
The door became noticeably firmer during everyday use, eliminating the movement that had been experienced previously.
Enhanced User Experience
Users continued enjoying the convenience of biometric access while benefiting from a more natural door operation.
Professional Appearance
The finished installation complemented the executive office environment and provided a clean and refined appearance.
Continued Security
Most importantly, the director retained the convenience and security expected from a modern access control system without compromising the aesthetics or functionality of the entrance.
The positive feedback from the client confirmed that taking time to understand the environment and customize the solution had been the right decision.
Why One Access Control Solution Does Not Fit Every Door
Many people assume that a successful installation in one office can simply be replicated in another.
In reality, factors such as:
- Door construction.
- Frame design.
- Existing hardware.
- User preferences.
- Security requirements.
- Desired aesthetics.
all influence the most suitable access control approach.
This is why professional assessment is essential before installation.
